Along the Sonoma Coast hot blood and cold water make good surfing. There is a great cafe/deli/BBQ on the shoreline of Bodega Bay to take away the hunger and remind diners of the great surfing adventures that occur all over the world. Our connection to the sea, the mother of all life, began in our mother's womb. We are reminded daily of our connection to the sea with the moonrise and ebb and flow of the tides as Mother Earth journeys around the sun. Humble and sincere owner, Michael Phillips, descended from Hawaiian Royalty, and honors the importance of his connection with Aina Mana (Hawaiian for spirit of the land).
The Island Style Deli is located next door to Lucas Wharf Restaurant. Here you can dine in the deli, private wooded alcove or al fresco outdoors by the bay. Seagulls and pelicans glide over head and the waters of the bay are a stones throw away making the environment most pleasant and invigorating - rain or shine! In the deli case is the fresh in-season catch of wild caught fish, including salmon, mahi mahi, Hawaiian Ahi tuna, halibut or snapper, prawns and fresh oysters. Homemade smoked Ahi and salmon are smoked on-site. This family owned deli also serves fresh fish and chips, Black Angus burgers, and special Hawaiian Kona coffee by the cup. Ask about the special pre-planned and pre-paid picnics for parties of 2 - 100 for that special outing!
All signature dishes such as the teriyaki Mahi Mahi plate, included in the Hawaiian Plate Lunches come with macaroni salad and white rice cones. Desserts include cheese cake slices and a whole cooler of chilled fruit drinks, soda pop and Kerns fruit sodas, a large selection of domestic, imported and micro-brewed beers and wine by the bottle or glass.
At the Island Deli dining is a very tribal experience - WELCOME TO THE TRIBE of Sonoma Coast Soul Surfers. A wide flat screen plays soul surfing movies and music all day. The simple nautical decor takes a back seat to the delicious fresh cooked meals. Believe me - there is a much deeper current underneath the decor and theatrics. The signature plate - the grilled teriyaki Mahi Mahi is sensational - light and flaky - crisp where the fire licked it and drizzled with a delicious sweet teriyaki sauce. Here you can savor some of the best BBQ'd oysters on the North Coast. Each BBQ'd oyster is covered with a passion fruit chili sauce (a Royal Hawaiian family recipe) and sprinkled with sesame seeds and chives. The clean, fresh, locally harvested oysters are sweet-hot like honey and lava. ARE YOU HUNGRY!!!
